Broce and Steger Move Into Lead
|
|
July 7th 2010 -
Two players who started the day tied for sixth place fired second-round 66’s at The Legends of Indiana to lead the Indiana Open Championship.
2010 Indiana Amateur champion Eric Steger (a) and two-time past Open champion (2002-’03) Jamie Broce bettered their first day scores of 69 to move up. “I finished the round better today. Yesterday I bogeyed at the end, but today a couple more putts went in,” explained Broce. He and Steger hold a one shot advantage over Andy Winings and Michael Powell (a) at 136. Winings, who also started the day tied for sixth place, fired a second round 67 to put himself in better position for the final 36. “I only missed one green all day,” said Winings. “Yesterday I couldn’t make putts- I had a lot of lip-outs, but today I could.”
Of the players at the top, only Broce knows what it is like to earn the title of Open Champion. Winings also won the Amateur in 2007, but neither he nor Steger have yet to win this event. Broce’s past victories have come when he either led the field heading into the final round or was one of only a few players way out in front of the rest of the pack. He has the lead again, but this time ten players are within four shots battling to add their name to the list of past champions.
The field was cut to low 70 scores and ties, and 75 players
advanced who recorded 148 or better. Complete results here |
