Course Record Takes the Lead
June 24th 2010 - A 63 by Brad Gehl of Carmel tied the course record at Country Club of Indianapolis and moved him into the lead at the State Amateur Championship Thursday. With 54 holes completed, Gehl's 69-74-63=206 leads by one shot over Griffin Wood of Boonville at 68-70-69=207 and defending champion Erik Barnes of Marion at 69-68-70=207.

"This tournament means a lot to me, and I couldn't have picked a better tournament to do it at," said Gehl, referring to achieving his personal best in a competitive round. He shattered his previous best of 68. "This week has been up and down, and during the second round I had to fight through everything," he said. "Today I stayed patient, and I knew if I was going to contend I had to get into a rhythm and execute."

Gehl has held the lead going into the final round at another championship event - the Indiana PGA Junior, and he plans to prep the same way as he would for any other round. "I'll try to find my tempo on the range and stick with it."
