Egel Wins Boys State Junior
August 8th 2009 - Ben-Marvin Egel, Kokomo is the 84th Indiana Boys State Junior Champion. Egel, the #2 seed, defeated #1 seed Drew Imel, Bluffton 3&2 in the Championship Match. Egel had a quick start to the Championship Match, getting out to a quick 3up lead after four holes. Imel, cut the lead to 2up with a par on #5 and the pair halved the rest of the way out on the front nine. Egel got back to back wins on #10 and #11 to get to 4up, but hit his second shot into the hazard on #12 allowing Imel to win the hole. Imel, had a chance to get the match back to 2up on #15, but the players halved the hole and the match ended two holes later on #16. The Championship Match was each player's eighth round of the week. Egel is set to begin his Junior year at Northwestern High School, while Imel will be playing for IPFW this fall.
