First Match Play for Leader
July 28th 2009 -

Seth Fair of Brownsburg will tee off July 29 in his first match play competition as the number 1 seed in the IGA Match Play Championship. Fair’s qualifying round of 4-under-par 32-36=68 earned him the top spot at The Trophy Club in Lebanon. “I just hope to get off to a great start again and then take it one shot at a time,” said Fair, who opened with consecutive birdies Tuesday. Kyle Perry of Bloomington also carded 68 (33-35) and due to order of play took the second seed heading into the match play portion.

Perry will go up against Robert Gleixner of Greenwood and Fair will compete against Josh Ruff of Winamac who won a playoff with a birdie for the 32nd and final seeding. Ruff and John Santerre of Batesville both shot 76 to force the playoff. The first round begins at 7:30 a.m. See tee times here. Round of 16 matches will continue in the afternoon.

Defending champion and 2009 Senior Match Play winner Randy Nichols is not competing in order to play in the US Senior Open at Crooked Stick GC. Nichols qualified for the championship when he was a semi-finalist at the 2008 US Senior Amateur.
