Kristina Kniesly comes from behind to win 2018 IWGA Championship

June 3rd, 2018

Kristina Kniesly, of Logansport, Ind. headed into the final round of the IWGA Championship at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. three shots behind Julia Potter-Bobb of Indianapolis, Ind. Kniesly was able to come back from behind and defeat the defending champion, Potter-Bobb with a two-day total of 2-over par 144.

Neither Kniesly, or Potter-Bobb got off to the start they had hoped for, as they were 2-over par and 3-over par respectively after nine holes. Kniesly says she stayed patient throughout the round however, and waited for putts to begin dropping.

“I hit it pretty consistent all day, but there a couple shots I wasn’t very focused on.” Kniesly says. “I stayed patient on the back nine and putts started to fall.”

Her 2-under par, 34 on the back nine was good enough to take the lead and ultimately hold off Potter-Bobb to secure the victory. Her back nine scorecard consisted of two birdies and no bogeys.

“I told myself to stay confident and play my own game throughout the day because I knew Julia is a great player,” Kniesly said.

Potter-Bobb finished runner up in the overall division, but grabbed a win in the Mid-Amateur division with a two-day total of 4-over par, 148.

In the senior division, Nina Whalen of Indianapolis, Ind. won with a two day total of 4-over par, 148.
