Runner-up Finish Redeemed
August 25th 2009 -

In his first year of eligibility, Terry Werner of Dyer took the Senior Amateur Championship at Tippecanoe Lake CC August 24-25 and redeemed his runner-up finish at the Mid Amateur two weeks ago. “I played solid all day, and I’m really happy with the round,” he said. He began the final round at two under, sharing the lead with Tom Jones of Terre Haute, but his second-day 70 claimed sole ownership of the lead. Werner’s string of 16 pars in the final round was finally broken at hole 17 when he made a six-foot putt for birdie to move to three under and three shots in front. An approach shot into the sand on 18 forced a bogey, but he maintained a two-shot separation from runners-up Sam Till of Fort Wayne and Randy Nichols of Brookville. It was Till who edged out Werner at the Mid Am. “Now we’re even,” joked Werner.
