July 20th 2010 -

The PGA of America’s National Scholarship awarded two new Indiana high school graduates $2,000 in assistance to obtain a college degree this coming fall. Four more Indiana students already enrolled in college will continue to receive scholarship awards from the PGA of America.

Kaelyn Lingenfelter of Rochester, daughter of PGA Member Lyle Lingenfelter, and Katherine Cooprider, daughter of PGA Member Liz Cooprider, received awards for the first time. Lingenfelter maintained a 3.97 grade point average while participating in golf, volleyball, volunteering many hours in her community and working part time. She will attend Bethel College with the plan to study education. Cooprider earned a 3.86 GPA and participated in numerous clubs and sports including basketball and theater. She will study theater in the fall.

Receiving his second $5,000 John Cox Scholarship is Bradley Smith, a member of Ohio State University’s golf team and son of PGA Member Todd Smith. As a finance major, Smith has kept up a 3.97 GPA while also traveling with the golf team and participating in Christian and service groups on campus. Receiving her first John Cox Scholarship but third overall from the PGA is Julianne Frye, daughter of PGA Member Rick Frye. She has a flawless 4.0 GPA at University of Kentucky where she studies education, volunteers her time with the Carnegie Center for Literacy, Champions are Readers, and Speed Read, and participates in intramural sports.

Peter Rafferty, grandson of PGA Member Don Essig III and student at Millsaps College, was granted his third National Scholarship in 2010. When not studying finance and maintaining a 3.8 GPA, Rafferty is serving as a Big Brother, Baseball Mentor and student government official. He also plays varsity baseball for the college. And finally, Erin Smith, sister of Brad and daughter of Todd, received her second award. She studies business management and finance at Indiana University, has earned a 3.84 GPA, and serves the Bloomington community as a Dance Marathon Recruiter, youth group member, and Kelley School Alumni Partners Board representative.
