Steger Advances to Round of 32 at US Public Links
June 30th 2011 - Eric Steger chose to remain an amateur just a little longer so he could have one more chance at the US Public Links. He followed through on his goal and qualified for the match play portion, but his amateur journey ended in the Round of 32. After rounds of 74-77=151 at Bandon Dunes Resort during qualifying, he earned the 53rd seed in match play. His first round match was against 12th-seed Julian Suri of St. Augustine, Fla., who he convincingly defeated 4 & 3. But it was 21st-seed J.J. Spaun of Los Angeles, Calif. who defeated him 5 & 3 in the Round of 32.
