Sturgeon and Crafton Top Masters
July 22nd 2010 - A tournament low round of 5-under-par 66 gave Jared Sturgeon the edge over the rest of the boys field at the Pepsi Max Masters Tour Championship at Wood Wind GC Thursday. His morning round of 71 combined with the 66 for a 137 and a five shot victory over runner-up Tyler Ostrom at 68-74=142. "It's very fun," said Sturgeon. "I just stuck to my game plan of staying conservative off the tee and hitting greens." He hit greens, and when he did he also made putts to convert birdies and even a couple eagles. "I had 24 putts this afternoon," he said. Sturgeon eagled the par-5, 6th hole in both rounds.

Sturgeon earned enough points in the Championship to finish runner-up on the points list just behind Masters Tour Points Winner Rylan Porter.

In the girls division, Paige Crafton dominated the field with a 74-75=149. The next best scores were posted by Rachel Welker and Kaelyn Lingenfelter eight shots back at 157. A 74 was the lowest round carded by any girl int he 36-hole event. Mattie Lindner recovered from an 84 in the morning round to shoot 74 in the afternoon to place 4th overall and maintain her position as Masters Tour Points Winner for 2010.
