USGA Women's State Team
August 5th 2009 -

Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne will host the 2009 USGA Women's State Team Championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association, Sept. 1-3. A field of skilled female amateur players from across the 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will test their abilities for three days on one of the finest courses in the Midwest.

"Bringing an event of this caliber to Fort Wayne will be a boost to the entire community,” said Don Hunter, Sycamore Hills general manager. “It will showcase one of the finest golf courses in the Midwest, and give the golf fans in the area a chance to see some of the best female golfers in the country. We are looking forward to hosting this prestigious event and are confident that the participants will enjoy the challenge and our Hoosier hospitality.”

Over the past several months, USGA officials, in conjunction with Course Superintendent Jeff Geller, have made minor alterations to the course. The removal of several trees on Nos. 8 and 17 and some bunker modifications on the fifth hole will enhance course playability for the championship as well as the membership.

Many factors have made this championship possible, including the significant assistance of our key supporters. Major contributions from several pillars of the Fort Wayne community helped secure this event, which will enable fans to watch and enjoy some of the best female amateur golfers from across the country. This group of supporters is optimistic that this championship will result in the development for a successful long-term relationship between Sycamore Hills and the USGA.

"Our supporters believe that hosting this event will showcase Sycamore Hills and the entire Fort Wayne community,” said Hunter.

The three-day, three-person team event begins with practice rounds on Sunday, Aug. 30, and Monday, Aug. 31. The first round of the championship begins on Tuesday, Sept. 1 and admission is free.
