Victory for Dal Corobbo
May 18th 2010 - Along with patience and determination, an early morning tee time for the opening round of the E-Z-GO Indianapolis Open presented by Advantage Golf may have given champion John Dal Corobbo an advantage that led to his win. On May 17 at The Bridgewater Club, rains plagued the morning wave of tee times of the championship. As the course took on more and more water, the rain seemed endless. Eventually around 12:15 pm the players were called off the course due to unplayable course conditions and the looming threat of lightening. After four long hours pent up in the club house, half of the 156-player field returned to the course. Only the morning wave was able to finish before sunset, the advantage to Dal Corobbo being that he didn't have to come back in the morning to finish his first round. At 5:15 pm he finally posted a 1-under-par 71 and would maintain sole ownership of the lead through the first round. After anxiously awaiting a delayed tee time during the delay, all of the afternoon wave pairings were forced to finish their first 18 the second day.

An unusual 41 players withdrew due to the circumstances, but the cut made after the first round was at a respectable 79 which kept 67 competitors in the field. A drizzle remained in the afternoon as Dal Corobbo tried to maintain his lead. A player who made a move early was Mike O'Toole who was tied for second after the first round with a 73. He was 1-under for the round through the 10th hole, while Dal Corobbo was 2-over. After the 10th, Dal Corobbo made a streak of eight pars to remain at 1-over par for the tournament, but O'Toole slipped on 13 with a bogey and finished with a three-putt on the 18th green for bogey to finish with a 2-over total. On the final hole after Dal Corobbo thought he saw O'Toole make a bogey to lose his tie for first, he hit an errant approach shot in the rough well left of the green. But he finessed a chip to eight feet and a made a great last pressure-packed putt to secure the victory.

O'Toole finished in 2nd along with top amateur Eric Steger who fired 73-73=146.
