On New Year’s Day the Digital Media and Rules teams at the USGA launched the new Rules of Golf Application for iPhone and iPod touch (http://www.usga.org/mobile/). This is an exciting development as they take the new 2010-2011 Rules of Golf book into the mobile world, for golfers and Rules officials to access on the move. Not only does the digital application allow for greater access to the Rules, but also makes it easier to use and find information you’re looking for. The new application features:
· Every Rule, Definition and Decision available at the touch of your finger
· Simple and intuitive navigation
· Convenient search function
· Jump dial for quick access to specific Rules
· Ability to e-mail Rules questions to USGA experts
Users can purchase and download it in the iTunes store for $3.99. Here is the direct link if you have iTunes, an iPhone or an iPod touch:
The iPhone was a perfect initial platform for the application given the vast distribution of iPhone Apps (there are now over 100,000 Applications available and users have downloaded over 2 billion Apps to date). However, we are pleased that at the end of January we will be extending the Application onto BlackBerry and the new Google Android operating system. At that time we will work with Jessica’s team to provide easy access from staff BlackBerry devices.
The USGA will update again in a few weeks when the Rules of Golf Application is launched onto BlackBerry.
