Erica Shepherd Gets First-Ever Women's Amateur Win

June 12th, 2020

After three long days of championship golf, the 98th Women’s State Amateur Championship is officially complete. Duke University’s Erica Shepherd captured her first Women’s Am title this afternoon at Old Oakland Golf Club, carding a 3-under-par, 69 today.
“It means a lot to win my first ever Indiana Women’s State Amateur Championship Title,” Shepherd said. “Everyone who knows me knows that I love where I’m from. I love Indiana. Just to be able to finally win after so many years of competing in this event truly means a lot. I’m super proud of it.”
Totaling 12 birdies and five bogeys for the event, the two-time USGA champion played hard and came out on top finishing at 7-under-par in the 54-hole event. Her final round consisted of five birdies and just two bogeys.
“When the back nine hit, I tend to do better when I’m under pressure,” Shepherd said. “When I start to feel the pressure, I start thinking about winning and that’s when stuff starts coming together.”
Shepherd entered the final round on top of the leaderboard along with Cailyn Henderson, of Westfield, and Julia Potter-Bobb, of Indianapolis, all at 4-under-par.
“I felt really good coming into this event,” Shepherd said. “I had the warm up round on Sunday in Anderson and everything besides my putting was super solid. I haven’t play this well in a while.”

Potter-Bobb finished runner-up at 3-under-par, followed by Henderson at 2-under-par.
