Griffing Grabs Third Indiana PGA Senior Championship Title

August 17th, 2016

Due to inclement weather, the first round of the Indiana PGA Senior Championship at Brickyard Crossing GC was postponed.  Therefore, Senior Professionals played 36-holes today, competing for the Section title and a spot in the 28thSenior PGA Professional National Championship.

Quinn Griffing of Donald Ross GC separated himself from the field by three shots, winning the event with a 9-under-par, 135 finish.

For the past two years, Griffing has suffered from both a wrist and a back injury.  In 2014, Griffing was unable to participate in this event and in 2015, he suffered through 36 holes.

“It feels really satisfying to come out on top in this event,” Griffing said.  “I have been spending a lot of time in the gym trying to prevent injury.  I am happy to be feeling better now and look forward to the national event.”

This is Griffing’s third Senior Section win (’08, ’11, 16) and sixth time qualifying for the Senior PNC.

“Today felt really smooth,” Griffing said.  “I have always felt like Brickyard sets up well for me and it was a seamless 36 holes.  This win feels special.”

Playing on his home course today, John DalCorobbo finished second, posting a 6-under-par, 138. Coming into today’s 36-hole shootout, DalCorobbo was exempt for this year’s Senior PNC due to his win at the 27th Senior PGA Professional National Championship.

“There’s always added pressure playing on your home course,” DalCorobbo said.  “But at the same time there’s an advantage.  I know where the trouble is and where to bail out.  And knowing the greens helped me convert a couple of putts today.”

DalCorobbo also qualified for the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship earlier this summer, which will be held October 27-30 at the Wanamaker Course, Port St. Lucie, Fla. Two-and-a-half weeks later, DalCorobbo will attempt to win his second Senior PNC at the same golf course, the Wanamaker Course, but from a different set of tees.

“I have about 60 days to prepare for both events,” DalCorobbo said.  “I’ve had a very busy summer, so I am ready to slow down a bit in the fall and spend more time practicing.”

Four senior professionals will join Griffing and DalCorobbo at the 28th Senior PGA Professional National Championship November 17-20.  Those players include: Bill Schumaker, Crooked Lake GC, Jeff Marsh, Brookwood GC, Dave Carich, Harbour Trees, and Todd Sandow, Sycamore GC.
