Brian Harris of Kokomo and Terry Werner of Dyer both bogeyed their finishing holes at Tippecanoe Lake CC Thursday and still managed to shoot 5-under-par 65 to lead the IGA Mid Amateur Championship. Werner, who won the Senior Am at Tippecanoe Lake in 2009 pulled his drive left on 18 into the trees and was forced to lay up. He was unable to convert the up and down to save par and take sole ownership of the lead. Harris hit his first 17 greens in regulation, but on hole 9 he chunked his 70-yard shot with a sandwedge and was also unable to get up and down. "It was just a lot of fairways and greens," said Harris. "Nothing too exciting." Werner said he also just played really steady golf. "I'm very happy with the round. I have no complaints," said Werner. "I even had good birdie chances on 15, 16 and 17."
Carls Hobbs of Elwood and Skip Runnels of Richmond sit in second place with rounds of 67.
The final round begins Friday at 8 a.m.
