CARMEL, IN - Granger's Kari Bellville won her first event of the season at the Women's Junior Championship at Twin Lakes GC. After a great few rounds, Bellville was included in the final group alongside Rachel Johnson and Hadley Walts.
Bellville had her best round of the tournament on the final day, shooting a 1-under 71 with a couple of birdies to her name. Rachel Johnson, last year's runner-up and the leader going into the final day, yielded the lead to Bellville within the opening 3 holes, a lead that Bellville would keep throughout the day. "It felt really, really good (to get the win). I had struggled a lot this season with my rounds because I had changed every club in my bag, including my bag, so everything was different," said Bellville. "I feel very proud of myself, especially to have 3 solid days in a row. I struggled the entire time with putting, but turned it around today and took advantage when I could."
Bellville and the field had to face extremely wet conditions on the final day due to rain. "Despite it raining all night and there being puddles in the middle, with the lift, clean, and place, it was nice to be able to give yourself a good lie. With the greens being that wet I knew I could attack the pins and the ball wouldn't go anywhere."
Going forward with the rest of the season, Bellville continued saying that this win was a "major confidence builder," and added that she believes she can continue this type of play going forward with the rest of the tournament.
Bellville is a recent Penn HS graduate who plans to attend the University of Notre Dame this coming fall, joining the prestigious golf team.
