Lyndsay McBride of Bristol defeated Milena Savich of Carmel 2 and 1 Wednesday to win her first Match Play Championship. McBride started off with a strong 3 up lead through four holes, but one of Heartland Crossing Golf Links' infamous bunkers got a hold of her approach shot at the 5th hole and she struggled to get out. The hole went to Savich and the momentum of the match balanced out. By the 12th green, after McBride missed her approach long and landed in thick weeds, Savich brought it back to all square. A par at the 16th put McBride back at 1 up and she closed out the match by getting up-and-down from the sand at the 17th.
Prior to challenging Savich, the 4th seeded McBride defeated K.C. Cain 4 and 3, Michelle Nash 5 and 4, and Amy Thomspon 4 and 3.
On Monday, 43 players attempted to qualify for the 16 spots allotted for the match play portion of the championship. All players who carded 80 or under advanced.
