Procedures for Requesting a Disabled Spectator Golf Cart at an Indiana IGA or PGA Event
***All cart fees for disabled spectators are non-refundable.
The Indiana Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America, Inc. (“PGA”) and the Indiana Golf Association, Inc. (“IGA”) (collectively the “IGA/PGA”) will evaluate, on a case-by-case basis, any request to use a cart at an IGA/PGA sanctioned event due to a claimed disability. For the IGA/PGA to properly evaluate such request, it is necessary to submit medical documentation setting forth the exact nature of the disability of how that disability prevents such spectator from walking the course as a spectator. Each person seeking to use a golf cart due to disability under the ADA must complete and submit to the IGA/PGA the form entitled ADA Request for Cart.
In each instance where a spectator is submitting a request for a golf cart, the request form (including the required medical documentation as specified on the request form) must be submitted to the IGA/PGA by the spectator in writing no later than 14 days before that particular event. Such information should be sent to one of the following addresses:
Todd DeHaven’s Email Address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Mailing Address: Indiana Golf Office
Attn. Cart - Disabled Spectator
PO Box 516
Franklin, IN 46131
Fax: (317) 738-9436
The IGA/PGA will not evaluate requests submitted via telephone or at the site of the event.
Spectators seeking to use a golf cart in more than one IGA/PGA event over the course of the seasonmust submit each request individually in writing 14 days prior to each event. The IGA/PGA will evaluate the medical information previously submitted on their person’s behalf during the IGA/PGA season, provided it is current as of the relevant submission and was not otherwise submitted in accordance with the procedures outlined above.
Please note that requests due to “temporary” injuries or impairments that do not qualify as a “disability” under the ADA will not be granted. A disability protected by the ADA is “a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities of such individual.” 42 U.S.C.S §12102 (2001).
Please not that requests for spectator carts may be limited or denied in some circumstances (e.g. poor weather conditions, lack of available carts at the host site, etc.) and the use of a cart is subject to final approval by the host facility. The following are required before a spectator cart will be provided:
A valid state issue driver’s license or photo I.D. AND
A state or government issued handicap parking permit matching the name that appears on the driver’s license or photo I.D.
A fee for rental of a cart will be $40.00 per day. Unless he or she is unable to drive a cart, only the approved handicapped individual is allowed in the cart.
